I chose this photo because it's shallow depth of field is interesting. The camera was close to the fence, focusing on the leaves. The rule of thirds is apparent here because the horizon is just about on the bottom third. The mood of this image is calm, cool and almost relaxing. I was on the ground, or very close to it, in order to get this angle of view. I believe the subject matter does hold the viewer's attention and the different depths of field guide the eye through the picture.

I chose to put this image in my portfolio because of the contrasting colors, and lines and shapes in it. There is high contrast between the color of the leaf and the color of the grass in the image once it is in black and white. The focus is on the leaf and raindrops on it, while the grass in the foreground and background is blurry. I bent down close to the ground to get this point of view. I shot very close to the leaf to achieve this level of detail. The lines and shapes in this photo are contrasting because of soft round orbs of water and the more rigid grass and outline of the leaf. To me, this image communicates a sense of nostalgia and sadness, because it was taken in a graveyard. This picture is one of my favorites because neither the foreground or the background are in focus, but it is the middle ground that is. The veins in the leaf are leading lines to guide the eye through the photo.

I chose this picture for my portfolio because of the unique editing I did on it. It is actually a reflection of a tree into a window, and I used photoshop to make four of them come together like this. The focal point of this photo is the black almost cross in the center. The picture has a sense of depth because of the more solid black in the center of the image. The meaning of this photo is to somewhat confuse the viewer, but also engage them into the mysteriousness of it. Though this picture was taken in color, it is one of the few I enjoy better in black and white. It has good symmetry and a good balance to it.
