self portraits
I am choosing the portrait where I am smiling at the camera to reflect on. I held the camera out to take this picture. I took this picture at about 5 o’clock at night, in my hotel room when I went to India. I used the rule of thirds when taking this photo. White balance was shade and the ISO was 400. I chose to take a picture with my henna showing because I had just got it and I thought it was beautiful. I believe my portrait was successful because you can clearly see my henna. This is not a selfie because it is just kind of a plain picture and its focusing on my facial features.
studio portraits
I am reflecting on the picture of Aubrey looking off to the side. The light is coming from the right hitting the front of her face because she is turned. There is a shadow created on the right side of her head. The model is sitting strait, turning their head to the side and down. The shot shows her head and shoulders and chest. The picture is vertical. I shot from the front of her and I was about four feet in front of her. The expression on Aubrey’s face communicates sadness and deep thought. There is a serious aspect being portrayed. I used lighting and shadow to give a solemn aspect to this photo. As opposed to the picture of her looking into the camera which portrays wonder and curiosity, this photo is more grave because of the angle of her head and expression on her face.
double exposure
I selected a picture I took of flowers, and a portrait of myself for the double exposure. The flowers were placed in my hair evenly to create a good balance of flowers. The image of flowers that I took I placed over this profile portrait of myself. Then I adjusted the opacity of the flower picture and erased the parts of it that were not on my hair. The saturation of the photo has been adjusted. The images relate conceptually by the flowers added to the peaceful expression on my face means that I am thinking peaceful and calm thoughts and at peace with myself. My double exposure conveys the meaning that calm, kind thoughts can make someone more at peace and happy.
